Topic Number: H-SB05.1-005
Phase: Phase II
Topic Title: INNOVATIVE LESS-LETHAL DEVICES FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT
Organization: Lynntech, Inc.
Address: 2501 Earl Rudder Freeway South
College Station, TX 77845-6023
Abstract: Recent trends in law enforcement clearly illustrate the effectiveness of the taser to debilitate even the toughest targets without causing permanent injury or lingering after-effects. Current electric stun technology is either hand-held or short-range and tethered to the launch platform. Law enforcement agencies would benefit from longer range, non-tethered electric stun projectiles. The introduction of tasers caused sharp decreases in injuries to both police officers and suspects and the same is expected for long range electro-muscular disruption (EMD) devices. During the Phase I project Lynntech designed and demonstrated a 40 mm non-lethal, non-tethered, EMD projectile with a wireless "tase on demand" capability. During the Phase II project, Lynntech will modify the 40 mm to a dual 37 (40) mm round for greater applicability, develop a standard 12 gauge EMD round, demonstrate a forty meter range for both, determine the optimal price point for both, and fabricate several marketable prototypes of each. Additionally, Lynntech will identify the required human effects testing. The two primary customers are the military and law enforcement agencies. Other potential users include customs and border patrol agents, security personnel at airports, banks, and private organizations, animal control agencies, zoos, and everyday citizens seeking personal and property protection.
