Abstract: N5 Sensors' DHS SBIR Commercial Readiness Pilot Program (CRPP) project is aimed at commercializing low-power, compact (wearable-type) detectors capable of detecting various toxic gases and particulate matters (PM) encountered in post-fire environments. The technology developed during phase I and II of this project addresses the shortcomings of the current inadequate mature sensor technologies that are used in handheld monitors given to fire-fighters and first responders. For the CRPP project, further development at the system-level implementation will be carried out with significant emphasis on independent test and evaluation. This CRPP program will allow N5 to address the necessary steps to transition into mass manufacturing. The technology developed under this project is a dual-technology, with other non-fire-related applications for the chip-scale gas sensors. These include; portable industrial detection for oil and natural gas, petrochemical, chemical, mining, fire/rescue/hazmat application and consumer applications such as personal air quality monitors, smart-phone based breath analyzers, indoor hazard and monitoring and climate control.
